This is a blog about the history of the internet in India.
The word Jeth Bahu ki means "turn to mother" in Hindi.
The website will be dedicated to all things internet in India, with an emphasis on how different it has been than what was originally designed at CERN in Switzerland back when this whole thing began so many years ago.
Most of all I am trying to give an honest record of the internet in India, which is based on my experience here.
This history of the internet in India is archived by the Wayback Machine.[29] It was archived by the National Library of Australia on 10 October 2005,[30] and by "web.archive.org" on 16 May 2011.[31]
I wrote this blog in 2010 over a four month span, using only Google Docs. I kept it private for two years before posting it publicly. During that time, Google Docs changed their user interface twice, thus rendering some content unusable after each update. I had to rebuild the entire blog from scratch.
The sidebar is a complete rewrite from the original, as it had been written on a typewriter by my friend, Sameer Lalwani. I received permission from him to reuse it in this reworked version.
I named the blog after a famous Hindi poem called Jeth Bahu ki by Baba Trilok Nath Das (1734-1801 CE), which he wrote on 3 May 1779 A.D., three days before his death at the age of 87. The very last lines from the poem are these:
